The UK’s RAJAR has finally released new MIDAS survey data – after pausing fieldwork when the pandemic hit in early 2020 – and results reflect how life has changed in the past 2 years. Podcast weekly reach has increased from 18% in Winter 2019 to 20% in Winter 2021, and podcast listening hours have increased by 17%, from 58 to 68 hours per week. Most listening used to take place whilst driving/travelling, but now it is whilst working and studying – a shift in behaviour due to the pandemic. 50% of podcast listening now happens in the home, slightly up on the last survey. 94% of people listen to podcasts alone. 69% of people listen to nearly all the podcast episodes they download – which is unchanged from the last survey.
